A corporal drinks from a tin drum type canteen offered to him by a comrade in arms. Quartermaster reports show that this unit suffered a serious shortage of canteens early in 1863. Long after the economic shell jacket had become commonplace, Georgia continued to provide frock coats to some of their troops. This soldier is carrying fifty rounds of ammunition in an imported English Enfield cartridge box.
